finished artwork thread

seeing that we have a sketch thread, think we should have a finished artwork one also. Work can be either shown in context or separate. No reason why it shouldn't be either illustration or photography so long as it's commissioned.

should maybe include the name of the client and usage

any thoughts?

we do this over on the aoi site - i think its a great idea

here is one i did recently fro my own band Aces Wild

Here is the prelim sketch for this cover

Then I worked it up a bit

I had the idea of making a card featuring each member of the band- heres me

Its a bit like that bit in Reservoir Dogs, in this case instead of everyone wanting to be Mr Black i had to decide who was going to be the Ace of Spades( the coolest card!)

In the end the singer got that! I took Hearts simply cos no-one else would want it

Heres the final( i think) cover

some details lost in optimising..but you get the idea

There's a weekly sketchathon on the AOI site. Someone names a theme and you go from there. This is one I did this morning. The theme was worn on the head. Mostly you think of hats but this seemed just as appropriate. French looking guy thinking about his paperwork.

Sorry for not replying sooner Wacc. It was for an article on moving mortgage vendors. It'd be wrapping chips by now if it wasn't a cadmium poisoning risk. Kevin

Cheers. I did it for guys I've never met, they just emailed me and asked if I'd be into it. They sent me a load of posters and even took photos of the posters up at various spots around Hollywood.

hey kevin, what type of medium did you use, and how did you find it? i've always had trouble with them.

i'm experimenting with a brand of aussie acrylics that will stay workable as long as you use a water spray every half hour or so. taking a while to get used to though, not sure if it suits me.

Sorry to gatecrash your question

A "(gel) retarding medium" is designed to slow down the drying time of acrylics, however this can sometimes add more transparency (and I find it sometimes hard to control).

Hi Puddler. I used a Talens glossy medium on that one and had a bit of trouble with reflection on the scan. I went out and got a Liquitex matte medium which works fine. What kind of problems were you having? I find it works well when finnessing skin tones; and it does retard drying a little. Not sure I like the sound of spraying water over compositions mid-work - any acrylic would work the same way, no? Is it very different in feel [apart from working upside-down]?
